Switch Electric Spreadsheet

There are many different types of switches in the Eco3D Component Library. The basic function of each switch is the same; the switch turns the power on or off for the given circuit name. The difference between the switches is how you specify when to switch the switch.

The spreadsheet switch allows us to specify the on and off times using a CSV file. Once uploaded the data is stored within the switch component. This means you will not be required to copy the spreadsheet when using the layout on a different computer.

In this video we create a simple circuit to demonstrate using the cycle distribution component. First load an Energy Meter, then load the spreadsheet component. Check that the circuit name is set to “Lights”, then click the “…” button next to “CSV Time Data” and select the spreadsheet file. Next we select a component to connect to the circuit, in this example we use the simple Filament Blub.

The CSV file is a comma separated file with the data encapsulated by speech marks. The data should be in the format:

“Oct 1, 2012”,09:00 AM,05:30 PM
“Oct 2, 2012”,08:15 AM,05:45 PM
“Oct 3, 2012”,07:00 AM,07:30 PM

The first Column contains the Date.  This should be encapsulated in speech marks as it will contain a comma, for example “Oct 1, 2012”

The second Column contains the Start Time in the format of HH:MM AM

The third Column contains the End Time in the format of HH:MM PM

The spread sheet component contains the parameter “On Invert” this inverts the data, this parameter is very useful when simulation security lighting at night. The change would make the lights turn on at the off time and off at the on time.

We then run the simulation at a slow speed, so that we can clearly see the light changing colour as the power switches on and off.
